IndyGo, a Municipal Corporation of Indianapolis — Marion County, engaged Dovetail on a complete website rebuild and redesign project. As the largest public transportation provider in the state of Indiana delivering nearly 10 million passenger-trips each year, IndyGo was looking for a new website that would improve upon the overall online user experience for new and experienced riders alike.

The website was reimagined and developed to focus on the two main pieces of the IndyGo rider experience — trip planning and real-time bus tracking.

Our team designed a solution that intuitively and efficiently leads riders to the real-time data they are looking for through a series of calls-to-action, sidebar widgets and homepage modules.

We also integrated both new and existing real-time data and fares technologies, allowing riders to plan their trip on current routes as well as on the new Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system before it launched. These forward-thinking technological integrations helped create excitement around the increased mobility options IndyGo was launching and enabled riders to adequately prepare for the changes in the IndyGo system.

Other milestones for the site rebuild included:

  • Mobile-first design, ensuring that on-the-go riders can easily access and view the trip data in real time.
  • Proactively communicating updates surrounding ongoing and future BRT projects by combining ancillary websites into IndyGo.net.
  • Infused rider-friendly tone of voice across the site.
  • Ensured ease of use and accessibility across all platforms and devices for individuals of all abilities, meeting WCAG 2.1 compliance standards at the A and AA levels.
