Looking for the Unicorn that Fixes Everything?

Every business wants to find it.

The answer that finally solves the branding problem. The marketing problem. The sales problem. The new business problem.

Because what you’re doing now feels slow. It’s taking too long. The leads aren’t coming fast enough. The numbers aren’t moving the way you expected.

So you start looking for the unicorn.

Maybe it’s AI. A new website. A different agency. Better SEO. Paid media. A new CRM. A lead-generation company promising to fill your pipeline.

We get it.

But here’s something we’ve learned from more than four decades in this business:

There are no magic bullets. And there are rarely unicorns.

That doesn’t mean those things can’t work. They can. We use many of them ourselves.

But we’ve watched enough marketing trends come and go to know that sustainable growth rarely comes from finding one magical new thing.

The Problem with Looking for Unicorns

The problem isn’t just that they’re hard to find. It’s what happens while you’re looking for one.

Organizations can spend a lot of time jumping from one answer to the next. A new platform. A new campaign. A new agency. A new technology. Each one arrives with the hope that this will finally be the thing that changes everything.

Sometimes it does make a difference.

But more often, meaningful progress starts with something less exciting: understanding what’s actually getting in the way.

That means asking better questions.

Is it really a lead-generation problem? Or is your positioning not giving people a reason to care?

Is paid media underperforming? Or are you sending people to an experience that isn’t converting?

Does the brand need to change? Or have you simply failed to communicate what already makes it valuable?

Is the strategy wrong? Or haven’t you given it enough time to work?

Do you need another marketing tactic? Or do the pieces you already have simply need to work better together?

Those aren’t always the easiest questions. But they’re usually more valuable than immediately reaching for the next shiny thing.

Sometimes the Answer Isn’t Very Magical

Sometimes it’s better creative.

Sometimes it’s sharper positioning.

Sometimes it’s your website, your media strategy, your sales process or the experience you’re creating for customers.

Sometimes it’s trying something new.

And sometimes it’s simply sticking with something long enough to learn from it.

Usually, it’s a combination.

That’s why we believe good marketing starts with understanding the problem before prescribing the solution. Then you get the fundamentals right, try smart things, measure what happens and adjust.

It’s not as exciting as promising a million leads overnight.

But we’ve seen it work.

Again and again.

What We Can Promise.

We won’t promise you a million leads and then hand you a big report explaining why none of them turned into business.

We can promise you something better.

Real approaches we’ve seen work. An honest assessment of what isn’t. And the willingness to keep working the problem until we find what does.

No magic.
No fluff.
No B.S.

We still think unicorns are magical. We just don’t think magic is a business strategy.

At Dovetail, we call it Creative Impact. Real Results.

If that sounds like the kind of approach you’re looking for, let’s talk.
